SCGES has defined a set of recommendations for scientific unions but its role is also to disseminate recommendations more broadly to contribute to promote changes in the scientific education.
1. Elimination of Bias and Stereotypes
- Avoid gender stereotyping and unconscious bias in interactions with students and children.
- Teach both boys and girls about gender equality.
2. Inclusive Teaching and Learning
- Promote girls’ participation in science in both school and non-school settings.
- Use books and media that promote gender balance and highlight women’s contributions to science.
- Avoid books and media that reinforce gender gaps in science.
3. Classroom Practices
- Develop gender awareness in teaching.
- Track classroom participation to ensure equal opportunities for all students.
- Make sure girls feel comfortable speaking and participating.
4. Confidence Building
- Encourage single-sex activities to build girls’ confidence and self-expression in science.
