Summary

100 Years • 100 Women • 100 Stories is an international campaign jointly led by the Chilean Society of Biology and the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) to celebrate the Centennial of the Chilean Society of Biology (1929–2029). The campaign aims to recognize, document, and share the contributions of women to science through a collection of one hundred stories that brings together the voices of contemporary women scientists and the legacy of pioneering women who paved the way for future generations. From 2026 to 2029, the stories will be collected and showcased annually at the Annual Meeting of the Chilean Society of Biology, while also being promoted through the IUBS Women in Science activities. The complete collection will be presented at the 36th IUBS General Assembly, to be held in Chile in 2029, as one of the lasting legacies of the Centennial and an inspiration for future generations of women scientists.

Funding source :

This initiative is jointly led by the Chilean Society of Biology and the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). It is currently implemented through institutional support, voluntary contributions, and in-kind collaboration from participating scientific societies and partner organizations. Additional sponsorships and external funding may be incorporated as the campaign expands.

Evaluation :

The campaign will be evaluated through quantitative and qualitative indicators, including the number of stories submitted, participating countries, scientific disciplines represented, scientific societies and institutions engaged, dissemination activities, and audience reach. Additional indicators will assess geographic diversity, representation of pioneering and contemporary women scientists, and the long-term visibility of the campaign through annual presentations and the final collection presented at the 36th IUBS General Assembly in Chile (2029).

Impact :

The campaign aims to increase the visibility and recognition of women’s contributions to science, preserve scientific heritage across generations, strengthen international collaboration among scientific societies, and inspire future generations of women scientists. By creating a global collection of stories, it will contribute to documenting diverse scientific careers and building a lasting legacy for the Centennial of the Chilean Society of Biology and the IUBS General Assembly in Chile 2029.
